This week I have been reading Washington’s Crossing by David Hackett Fischer.
The book is a really good history about the Revolutionary War in New Jersey.
As I have been reading the book I have had memories of visiting Washington’s Crossing during a visit to New Jersey back in the late 90’s.
At the sight where Washington crossed the Delaware River, they have a nice sculpture based on the famous painting by Emmanuel Leutze.
The book also has a section about the painting and the symbolism that is found in it.
In reading the book I have a better understanding about how important the battles near the end of 1776 were in the Revolutionary War.
As I read about the Battle of Princeton, I remember visiting the site of that battle and seeing the Mercer Oak. You may have seen this famous oak tree in a movie starring Meg Ryan.
