Have you ever eaten a pluot?
A pluot is a mix between a plum and an apricot. There are quite a few different varieties and may also be called plumcots, apriums or apriplums.
I have a friend who has two pluot trees. One has fruit that is a more like a plum and the other is more like an apricot. I like the one that is more like an apricot better.
The red plum like variety ripened earlier and I was out of the country when they were available. However, I was lucky to get some of the ones that are more like apricots.
Here you can see that it looks a bit like a smooth skin apricot.
The flesh of this pluot is more like a plum than an apricot. They are nice and juicy and have a wonderful taste.
Here you can see a couple of the stones in my organic waste bowl. You can tell that I have also been eating some pistachios. These pluots are not free stone and it is not easy to clean all the flesh off of the stone.
I have just a few left, but must eat them in the next few days as they will spoil soon if I don’t.
