I finally found the Hostess Holiday CupCakes in the store. I have been seeing ads on TV and Facebook but haven’t seen them in the stores.
They had a nice display that also included White Peppermint Twinkies and Hostess Sno balls.
A box of the CupCakes made it into my cart. I was not tempted by the Twinkies and definitely not by the Sno balls. Why do they ruin food by putting dried coconut on it?
I could already see that there were some changes from last year. See my post Hostess Holiday Cakes. You can already see one change just by reading the title of my post last year.
Last year they were Holiday Cakes and this year they are Holiday CupCakes. A small change, but they seem to be more attuned to brand identity this year.
You can also see another change with the addition of the Original Squiggle.
Just as they did with the Pumpkin Spice CupCakes, Hostess has brought back The Original Squiggle. However, this time they did use a combination of the sprinkles and the squiggle.
One of my observations from last year was that the amount of sprinkles on the cake did not match the picture.
Of course the CupCake has cream filling. The taste of the yellow cake was really good and the addition of the squiggle provides a better balance between frosting and cake.
A minor change, but an improvement in my opinion. Now if they will just stick with the formula for future variations.
