Today I took a look at my rose bushes so I could make a decision as to when to prune them.
There are not quite as many New Year Roses as last year, but I am still up in the air as to whether to do my Winter Pruning this weekend or not.
I like this St. Patrick bloom. It does look like it is one of the last ones, so maybe it is time to get started.
These yellow blooms were lit up by the sun and looked so pretty. They also had a nice fragrance. How can I trim these back?
Here is another view of an open bloom in the shade and a bud that is opening in the sunshine. Maybe I will have to clip all the blooms off of my bushes and bring them inside and then get the pruning done.
Maybe it will depend on how I feel on Saturday.
Just a few more wandering thoughts on New Year’s Day.
Here is what I took to our New Year’s party last night.
The cream cheese with Cherry Pepper sauce was a hit. See my post Finger Foods to see what I took last year, or was it the year before last 🙂
I also watched part of the Rose Parade this morning. See my post from last year: 1957 Rose Parade
I then watched several football games throughout the day, including the Rose Bowl. Did anyone else spot the team that shouldn’t have been playing in a semi-final game? The BCS owes a certain conference a big apology.

Bit like here in terms of ‘when is winter?’. I’ve just done mine; not because it’s particularly cold, just that spring is just a month away really – gotta do it sometime, eh? 🙂
Love your rose!!
