Today I have been thinking of President Lincoln. There are several reasons why I have been thinking about him.
I did just read Abraham Lincoln: Friend of the People by Clara Ingram Judson. See: Newbery Challenge Update II
However, that is not the only reason why I am thinking of him this month.
I am getting ready to read Lincoln at Gettysburg: The Words that Remade America by Garry Wills. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction in 1993.
The anniversary of The Gettysburg Address is next Wednesday. Follow the link in the previous sentence to see what I wrote for the 150th anniversary last year.
I have a stack of Lincoln books that I want to read. Whenever I see one at the library book sale that I don’t have, I pick it up. My Grandma’s love of President Lincoln has been wearing off on me.
I have my Marx figurine of Lincoln sitting on my computer where I can look up and see him.
See: Marx Presidents and President’s, Presidents’ or Presidents
The more I read about President Lincoln the more I agree with the editorial cartoon: America Without Lincoln?
I have also been intrigued by the writings of Abraham Lincoln. He had a great way with words, especially when we know that he had very little formal education. He was definitely an autodidact.
Now to get started on my book.
