Tonight I will share a few pictures that I took of fish at the Toronto Zoo.

Since my post yesterday was about lions, I will start with a red lionfish (Pterois volitans).
I had a hard time getting a good picture of this beautiful fish. Shooting through glass in a dark room with many reflections was not easy.
Another fish exhibit is the cichlids of Lake Malawi. In this exhibit they show some of the hundreds of varieties of cichlids that live in Lake Malawi. The aquarium had less varieties than my last visit as they had reconfigured the aquarium and are slowly reintroducing the fish.
Lake Malawi is in Africa and is bordered by Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania.
This aquarium was fascinating and I spent a lot of time just watching the fish swim around. They often swam in groups and patterns.
Here we have a Siamese catfish (Pangasius sutchi). These fish are from the Mekong basin in Southeast Asia and can be as long as one meter. I really like the way that they display this fish. The waterfall is a nice touch.
Here are some tinfoil barbs (Barbodes schwanenfeldii) which are also from Southeast Asia. You will often find these in home aquariums. They can be as large as 14 inches so you would need a large aquarium if you have very many of them.
They like to swim fast, so getting a clear shot was tricky.
Can you see the movement in the picture?
Here we have a tank full of cardinal tetras (Paracheirodon axelrodi) that are from South America. They are very similar to the neon tetras (Paracheirodon innesi) that we had in our aquarium when I was growing up.
This tank was really reflective, but I think that you can pick out the fish without a problem.
I hope that you enjoyed this look at Fish at the Zoo.
Did you ever have an aquarium?
Steven
Looks like a nice display Steven. You’ve got great shots even though it’s tricky on glass. Fun Shelfie you got there
