I have recently been reading books about the Revolutionary War. I also have several in my stacks of books to read. I will share a few of these with you this evening.
I recently finished reading Redcoats & Rebels by Christopher Hibbert. The book covered the Revolutionary War from an interesting perspective. The book is subtitled: The American Revolution Through British Eyes
I found it interesting to see the war from the British perspective. There were a lot of firsthand accounts that were used to tell the story of the entire war.
I checked this book out from the library, but will snag a copy if I find one as it will make a good reference book.
In my stack of books to read about the Revolutionary War, is Liberty’s Exiles: American Loyalists in the Revolutionary World by Maya Jasanoff. I am looking forward to reading more about how the loyalists were affected by the Revolutionary War. I know that many of them moved to Canada or other British colonies after the war was over.
This Glorious Struggle: George Washington’s Revolutionary War Letters by Edward G. Lengel looks very interesting. The war is looked at through the many letters written by George Washington. This should be a nice first hand look at what was happening during that time.
1776 was written by David McCullough who won Pulitzer prizes in the Biography category for both Truman and John Adams. I have read John Adams and really enjoyed the style of writing and the depth of research that McCullough puts into his books. I am definitely looking forward to reading this book and will also have to acquire a copy of Truman. After all, my goal is to someday read all the Pulitzer winners for Biography.
I may not read this book straight through. It may be used more as a reference book while reading other books about the Revolutionary War.
A Guide to the Battles of the American Revolution is written by Theodore P. Savas and J. David Dameron.
I have skimmed through the book and it is filled with many tables and maps and is chock full of interesting information. I am especially eager to find out more about the battles that involved General John Burgoyne as one of my ancestors was in his army.
I also mention a few more books about the Revolutionary War in my recent post: Historic Book Acquisitions
Which book should I read next?
Steven
