The NCAA Basketball Tournament is finally over and a 7 seed has won the final game.
So, how upsetting has the tournament been?
You can look back at my previous posts in the series to follow the progress of the Upset Factor (UF) round by round. You will also learn about how I calculate both UF and BP.
Here is the final results in my BP/UF spreadsheet. During the Final Four, there were 12 UF. Since no number 1 seeds won during the Final Four there were no bracket points (BP).
In this clip from my spreadsheet you will see that ranked by UF, this year the tournament was the most upsetting tournament. The 111 UF beat the previous record by 6 UF.
Here is the list sorted by least number of BP. This year was not the lowest number for BP, but it was tied for fourth.
Based on the two numbers that I calculate, this has been the most upsetting tournament. The UF is more important in this determination as the BP can rapidly build up with a number 1 seed winning in the last rounds.
What year had the least upsetting tournament?
In 2008 the BP was 164 but the UF was 66.
In 2007 the BP was 157 but the UF was only 26.
My least upsetting tournament choice would be 2007, when only two double-digit seeds won in the first round.
Now back to some travel posts. I had planned on writing about my flights from today, but am a bit jet-lagged. However, I will give a quick teaser as to what I will write about.
First flight on a 787
Medical Emergency on flight
Aborted landing and go-around at SFO
Stay tuned,
Steven
