January Blooms

Today at lunch I made a quick stop at the bookstore.

When I pulled into the parking lot I was amazed by the sight of two beautiful trees.

January Blooms - Early Spring - BlossomsThe trees were in bloom with pretty white blossoms all over them. Isn’t it a bit early?

Blossoms on Tree - Early Spring - White BlossomsWe have had a very interesting winter with temperatures well above normal and no rain, so maybe the tree is thinking that it is later in the year.

Fall and Spring - Blossoms and Colored Leaves - Early SpringI also found it interesting that there were still red leaves on the branches of the tree. The tree has not even lost all the fall foliage before the spring bloom is setting in.

Mixed Seasons - Fall and Spring on a Branch - Red Leaves and White BloomsThere were even bees busy pollinating the blossoms.

I am used to an early spring, but usually I don’t see the trees blooming until February.

Usually this time of year it is rainy and cold. I just checked the forecast and it does look like February will start with cooler weather and a little rain.

Time for me to head off to summer for some temps in the 70’s and 80’s.

  1. Beautiful blossoms, Steven. We have no blossoms – the rain would decimate them – but catkins are out on the trees. Very early indeed.

Oh yes, it is too early for the blossoming of those trees.

I’m really hoping you get some rain there in California. For the earth and the wildlife it’s really a necessity. Spring needs to take it’s time and get some nourishment.
