When I was in Mexico City earlier this year I wrote a post titled Streets of Coyoacan.
Tonight I was inspired by the previous post to write about the streets of Coyoacan again.
During the week, going to and from the office is about all I see of the city.
On the way to the office we were besieged by hawkers at almost every intersection. They were selling all kinds of things, but newspapers and flowers were the most common items. There were also beggars and entertainers at many of the intersections as well.
I really like the newspaper hawker in the picture above. He has an umbrella/tower contraption strapped to his back so that he can display all the magazines and newspapers that he has available. He moved around with ease. I am sure that if I tried this it would be flapping all over the place.
My colleague who picked me up is a local and knows all the little back streets and short cuts of Coyoacan. Here we are going down a little alley with just enough room for one car. It is a one-way alley now, but it has not always been so. I can just imagine what would happen before. Is it Might is Right or First In/First Out.
For lunch we walked to a restaurant not far from the office. On the way back i stopped to take a picture of the median of the major street we crossed. This sight looks so peaceful, but looks are deceiving. It was very noisy and the streets and sidewalks on either side were bustling with activity. I can imagine taking a quiet walk here in the evening after traffic dies down.
As we were leaving the office I took a picture of a nice red lily with the colorful walls of a local residence as a background. You can see another picture of this same wall in my post Santa Catarina.
OK, now for one last picture. It breaks from the theme, but was something that caught my attention after dinner.
Can you believe that they are already advertising for Christmas? It is only September!
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of the Streets of Coyoacan.
Steven

Fascinating, thank you for sharing with us.
I like the photo of the median. And your explanation of how the traffic sounds contrast with the peaceful look make it all the more interesting.
Hey, that magazine hawker looks like a fun job. I’m a bit addicted to magazines as you know. I’d probably by one. I wonder what he does on a windy day? He might blow away like a kite.
