London Eye

In my post yesterday about the Singapore Flyer, I mentioned that I had pictures of the London Eye when it was the tallest Ferris wheel.

Luckily, I had pictures from an earlier trip to London. My last trip to London was in August 2006 and the Star of Nanchang opened in May 2006 so it was no longer the tallest Ferris wheel.

At the time that I took this picture the London Eye at 443 feet tall was the second tallest Ferris wheel. The Star of Nanchang is 525 feet tall. Of course now the London Eye has dropped back to third since the Singapore Flyer is 541 feet tall.

This picture was taken when the London Eye was the tallest Ferris wheel. I took this picture in September 2000 while doing some training in London. I remember the month when it was taken, as we would watch the Sydney Olympics during breakfast at our hotel each morning. Pictures can bring back so many memories, and not only of what is in the picture.

I will leave you with one more picture of the London Eye.

London Eye - Ferris Wheel - Big Ben - Lamp Post - Silhouette

I took this picture from the base of the London Eye. You can see the observation capsules, but what I really like is the silhouette of the buildings on the opposite bank of the Thames river and also Big Ben looming in the background.

As I look back at the first two pictures in the post, I see that I am very good at picking cloudy days to sightsee in London. The banks of clouds are impressive in both pictures.

We rode the London Eye while in London and it’s very cool isn’t it? I got some really cool pictures from inside the eye. We rode with a really fun group too.
