Disc Golf

Have you ever played Disc Golf?

If you were to have asked me this morning what I was going to write about this evening, disc golf would not have even been on my mind. However, as often is the case my mind wandered to disc golf this evening.

I was looking through some pictures from a trip to Omaha three years ago and found these pictures. I was trying to see if I had a picture of the building where my great-grandfather may have worked building Model T’s. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find one. Mainly because I didn’t take one :-). I thought maybe I had taken one by chance as I took some pictures on the same street. In any case, my mind is wandering again and that is a different story that will have to wait until after my next trip to Omaha when I will take some pictures of the building.

OK, back to disc golf.

He had just recently taken up the sport and wanted to play one of the local courses. We headed to the other side of the metro area to the Treasure Cove Disc Golf Course located on the Western Iowa Community College campus.

Since it was summer we pretty much had the course, and campus, to ourselves. The setting for the course was very beautiful. Lots of trees and flowers and of course my shutter finger was itching most of the time. I would much rather of just walked along and taken pictures instead of flinging the disc toward the baskets.

I really liked this picture. The trees provided great shade and also interesting patterns of shadow and light. There were parts of the course that were not so nice, but overall it was a beautiful walk. Samuel Clemens is credited with defining golf as “A Good Walk Spoiled.” I think that it applies to disc golf as well 🙂

I like this picture as it looks like this deer is contemplating the lie of the disc and planning the next throw. I did not have to contemplate my shot. I made sure that I got a nice picture of the deer. There were also many birds around. Some you could see, but others you could only hear.

Since that time three years ago, I have not played disc golf again. My brother is a different story. I just checked my brother’s stats on dgcoursereview and found that he has played 98 different courses in 17 different states. He has even designed and built a disc golf course in his hometown. Oh, and I better not leave off my youngest brother. He has played ten courses in three different states.

I think I will stick with taking pictures, but might be talked into playing a round of disc golf if my brother comes out to visit me. I am sure that he wants to add California to the list of states that he has played disc golf in.

Love to disc golf, not very good, bit like it none the less

  2. We call it Frisbee golf here, but I haven’t played it yet. Some day….

  3. I had a boyfriend in grad school who loved to play, so I went quite often with him. I’ve been thinking recently about trying it again. I was never competitive; really quite bad at it actually, but it was entertaining.

What the? That’s something I’ve not seen in our neck of woods. I will say right now “I am the WORST frisbie thrower alive”, so it’d be a real challenge to play with me and not laugh yourself to death. Love that little deer.
