Twinkies will be coming back by the end of July! The media is awash this morning with news about the reopening of four or five bakeries that will be making the Hostess snack cake products again. Bakeries in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and possibly California will soon be resuming production.
It seems like it has been a long time since the announcement by Hostess on November 16 that they would be shutting down. Of course, I was more worried about my bread and wrote a post titled Not My Bread!! which prompted my string of articles about a quest for a replacement.
One prediction I made that day is now on the horizon:
Will I miss these tasty treats? Not much, as I rarely indulge in them. Plus, do you really think that they will be gone forever? Someone will buy the brand name and the recipes and they will be back in production, it will only be a matter of time.
I remember well the weeks after the announcement when people were selling Twinkies for exorbitant amounts of money and all the stories about how long Twinkies would last if you stored them. I am wondering if people are now regretting their purchases of products that will soon be on the market again.
Twinkies may have ridden off into the sunset,
but there is now a new dawn on the horizon.
The new company that will be distributing the snack cakes will be known as Hostess Brands, so the packaging and names will most likely stay the same. It will be interesting to see how they are received back in the market. While they have been off the shelves there have been several new products released that will compete with them.
Now if Flowers Foods will announce their plans for the distribution of the former Hostess bread brands. When will I be able to buy Home Pride Bread again?

In our house, these are a once in a blue moon treat; but here, there’d been no shortage of supply. I remember my children talking about some kind of zombie movie, where yes, a twinkie was a very hot commodity.
I think I remember hearing that they were in a Sci-Fi movie of some sort. Maybe it was about zombies.
And in the twinkie…ling of an eye….they are back!
Hmm, nice word play.
Hurrah for Twinkies. Which I know by reputation only, I hasten to add. Are they moreish?
Not sure what you mean by moreish?
