American Food Thursday

Not really planned, but today turned into American Food Thursday.

For breakfast this morning I had a donut from Krispy Kreme that I had saved from yesterday.

For lunch we went to Sirloin Stockade.

To be on the safe side, I had a chicken breast and baked potato, but my students selected the option for multiple trips to the buffet lines and took good advantage of those trips.

Sirloin Stockade brings back some good memories for me. My uncle worked at one in Ottumwa, Iowa when I was a kid, and whenever I see or eat at a Sirloin Stockade I think of him. Of course, I thought of him today :-).

This evening to finish off American Food Thursday we went to Applebee’s.

I had the Buffalo Salad, and it was delicious. Applebee’s is another restaurant that brings back good memories. When I was a field service engineer many years ago, it was one of the places where I ate frequently. In the smaller Kansas cities in my territory, Applebee’s was often the best restaurant in town. I knew that I would get good food.

There are many American restaurant chains in Mexico City. You see them all over the place. McDonalds, of course, Papa John’s Pizza, Chili’s, Hooter’s, Burger King and IHop just to name a few others. No Taco Bell, although there has been two failed attempts to introduce Taco Bell into Mexico :-).

One advantage of eating at an American chain restaurant is that the menus are properly translated into English.

Here is a humorous example of a poorly translated menu. The restaurant will remain nameless :-).

Chicken Breast Pipian my Grandmother

I had to look up Pipian to try to understand this one. Pipian is a Mexican pumpkin seed sauce similar to a mole. Basically, Pipian chicken the way Grandmother made it.

OK, enough humor from the menu. It is time to call it a day.

    Hilarious menu. Oh man, I’d be starving…nothing would appeal to me…maybe pancakes at Ihop…thank goodness for pancakes.
