There is no question that Coca-Cola is big in Mexico. It holds the largest share of the cola market by a large margin.
Mexican Coke also holds a share of the US market as it is widely available in most of the country. The Coke bottled in Mexico uses cane sugar and has a more complex flavor. I have not had any on this trip, but may have to tomorrow just for the experience.
I have been drinking Coca-Cola Light.
Although available in plastic bottles and cans, many restaurants will serve Coke in glass bottles and it also seems to be the most common form for street vendors. I really like the way that you can see the wear marks on the glass bottles as they are used over and over again. A great way to recycle.
I really like this street scene, you see a couple iconic Mexican items. First the large stack of empty pop bottles ready to be cashed in and also a well decorated old VW. Although not a Beetle, this model is still a popular car. It is amazing to see the many different flavors of VW’s around the city. Fancy paint jobs, taxis, custom builds, restorations, etc…
But back to Big Coke!
This huge Coke Bottle is on the front of the Edifico Ermita. It is hard to see in this picture, but the floor plan of the building is a triangle. Think of the Flatiron building in Manhattan, but a bit shorter.
The Edifico Ermita was built in the early 1930’s by Juan Segura in the Art Deco style, and was originally a combination office and apartment building. It even had a movie theater. It was one of the first skyscrapers in Mexico City.
The building is at the intersection of Avenida Revolucion and Avenida Jalisco in the Miguel Hidalgo delegacione. It is a great spot for an ad as this is a very large and busy intersection.
I am feeling much better and am slowly getting back to normal. I have many pictures from this trip stored up for future posts, but many will have to wait as I have another trip just around the corner.

Interesting. Have a Coke for me!
Do you worry about drinking out of a bottle washed in the local water? OMG I got so sick when I was there. I was told it was probably the salad bar because they was everything in local water and to stick to cooked for. I don’t know far sure, but I wouldn’t take chances again.
PS. No I’m not drunk, “They wash everything in local water and to stick to cooked food” geez. LOL
I’m a cokeaholic, hence found this very interesting.
