Big Teeth

Today the post has to be about teeth. It has been what I have been thinking about today.

My day started with my friend Tina picking me up and taking me to the oral surgeon to have my wisdom teeth extracted.

After x-rays and a consultation, I was put under and my four wisdom teeth were extracted. The next thing I knew, I was sitting somewhere entirely different and slowly coming around. I had a mouthful of gauze and could see that Tina was coming in the back door of the office to help me to her car. We then went to the pharmacy to pick up a few prescriptions and then it was back home to start the recuperation process. I was so glad to get the gauze out of my mouth and to be able to eat and drink. I had not been able to eat or drink since the previous evening. I took the first round of antibiotic and ibuprofen and after Tina made sure I was all right I settled in for a little nap.

The day has gone well, but I hear that the second day is the worse as that is when the swelling starts :-). Keep me in your prayers.

I decided to share a couple of pictures of big teeth, since they make my little teeth seem quite small and easily taken care of.

Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) Big Teeth

Big Teeth of a Saltwater Crocodile

The first picture is of  the teeth of a saltwater crocodile (crocodylus porosus).

I took this picture last year while visiting the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. The Taronga Zoo is one of my favorite zoos in the world. They have great displays and it is in a very nice environment on the shore of Sydney Harbour.

I am so glad that I am not the dentist for this crocodile. He has such large teeth, and I am sure that they are not fun to have extracted.

Next we have some more big teeth:

Hippopotamus amphibius big teeth Toronto Zoo

Hippopotamus amphibius is an interesting animal. The name means river horse and it is the third largest land animal, with only elephants and rhinoceros being larger. I would definitely not want to be a hippo dentist after seeing the large teeth. It is interesting how they get their teeth cleaned in nature. The hippos will open their mouths and small fish will cleanse them of parasites.

I took this picture while visiting the Toronto Zoo earlier this year. You can read more about this hippo in my post Hungry Hungry Hippos. Do any of you remember this fun game?

So, be thankful that your teeth are not as big as they are for these two animals. You would need an awful big toothbrush and a lot of toothpaste.

Steven

p.s. A big thank you to Tina for being my chauffeur today and checking up on my just now.

It doesn’t sound like much fun–but I’m glad you’re feeling well enough to do a post with some great pictures. Hope tomorrow goes just as well for you.

  2. I hope you feel okay soon and that the swelling isn’t too bad. Love the big teeth pictures. I wonder if they ever use dental floss to clean those teeth? 😉

Wisdom teeth removal is not a lot fun as I recall. I wonder if alligator’s have any teeth buried in the back? Nice transition to the photos.

Good gravy those Croc’s are plenty scary looking, but I do love hippo’s. I spent the longest time watching one at the San Diego Zoo, it was in the tank…just floating. I bet you’re having a great nap right now, hope you’re dreaming about lovely hippo’s and not toothy croc’s.
