More California Propositions

Here in California we always have a lot of Propositions on the ballot in the General elections.

In my opinion there are way too many things that have to be approved by the voters, especially when in some cases they don’t listen to the voters anyway and come up with another way to implement something.

Let our elected officials do their job.

California Election, Voting, Daylight Saving timeLuckily we have a Voter Information Guide that helps explain all of them.

California Voter Information Guide, Daylight Saving Time, Voting, Prop 7Since yesterday was the day that we set back our clocks I talked about Proposition 7 which was related to Daylight Saving Time.

Daylight Savings, California, Propositions, ElectionsThat was an easy Proposition to determine how to vote. Now to figure out exactly how to vote on all the other Propositions.

California Propositions, Voter Information guide, Election DayAs you can see here we have 12 Propositions. However, one was removed from the ballot.

  1. Bonds for existing affordable housing programs – $4 Billion
  2. Bonds for existing program for housing for mental illness – $2 Billion
  3. Bonds for Water programs – $8.9 Billion
  4. Bonds for children’s hospitals – $1.5 Billion
  5. Changes in property tax base transfer to replacement property – I am getting close to qualifying for this program and it would benefit me if I wanted to move closer to work.
  6. Eliminates a gas tax and requires all future gas taxes and vehicle taxes to be approved by a proposition. – This one could cut a lot of funding for road repair.
  7. See: California Proposition 7
  8. Regulates outpatient kidney dialysis clinics. – This could be dangerous as it would set a precedent for control of other areas of private health care by the State.
  9. Removed from the ballot, but it would have split California into three States. – Maybe a good thing as I did not agree with the way the split was  proposed 🙂
  10. Expansion of Rent Control by local governments
  11. Ambulance employees can be on-call during work breaks – Why is this even a question?
  12. Size of cages for chickens, pigs and calves raised for veal. Ban on sale of products that do not meet standards. – This actually delays implementation of tighter standards set by another law.

There are a few of these that I am still coming to a final decision on, but I have little time as tomorrow is Election Day.

Polling Place, bilingual election sign, no electioneering, election dayRemember to go vote if you haven’t already done so by mail or early voting.

I am not sure yet whether I will vote first thing in the morning or wait until I get home. I think it will depend on what time I am ready to leave in the morning 🙂

How many Propositions are on your ballot?

California Proposition 7

Tonight as I was out walking I was thinking of the upcoming election on Tuesday. As always we have a lot of Propositions on the ballot.

California Election, Voting, Daylight Saving timeI was thinking of Proposition 7 tonight as it may in the future allow California to do away with what we went through this weekend.

So, what did we go through this weekend? The time change.

California Voter Information Guide, Daylight Saving Time, Voting, Prop 7I was not sure what Prop 7 was all about, so I had to check it out in the Official Voter Information Guide earlier today. In fact, I checked out all 12 of the Propositions as I prepare for voting on Tuesday.

Daylight Savings, California, Propositions, ElectionsBasically, this is a Proposition that give the power to change the law about daylight saving time back to the legislature. The current law requires that any changes have to come through a Proposition like this one. By putting this back in the hands of the legislature they can make changes if it is allowed by the federal government.

This Proposition does not do away with daylight saving time or make any changes to it.

The only thing it does is to do away with an expensive and time consuming Proposition to make changes in the future.

It would also make it easier to make global alignments if time changes continue. It is frustrating that Europe makes their time changes at different times than we do. If we are going to make changes they should all be at the same time. Then we only have to remember who doesn’t make the changes 🙂

Big Ben - Elizabeth Tower - Clock Tower - Most Photographed Clock - London, England - Iconic ClockAt least this was an easy Proposition to make a decision on how to vote.

Did you get all your clocks set back today, or did you fall forward instead of back?
