Tracing Ancestors

I have been doing a bit of genealogy in the evenings this week. I am working on tracing a few branches of my family and want to capture some data before Ancestry.com makes an update to their DNA matching algorithm. They will be improving their matching, but in the process are increasing the amount of shared DNA needed to show a match. I want to capture some of the crumbs in the lower DNA matches so that I can retain the clues they might hold.

I am hoping that the new matching algorithm will help make sense of some of the data. Can I figure out why I am getting matches with the Jefferson, Bolling, Kennon and Blair families? The DNA is not exactly following the paper trail, but there are many inaccurate family trees in Ancestry for these families.

Great Grandpa Braman - Wedding Picture 1911 - Ford Motor Company - Old Wedding PicturesI am thinking of other ancestors as I wade through my DNA matches. I am also trying to find out more about the ancestry of my great grandmother Sarah Adeline Leeper Braman. I think of this picture often as my hair gets thicker and thicker while sheltering at home.

Addeline Baker Leeper, John Henry Leeper, GenealogyHer mother Adeline Baker Leeper also had thick dark wavy hair. She is the one on the left in this picture. It is her ancestry that I am trying to find out more about.

3rd Great Grandfather, David Darling, Ancestry, Geneaology, Family HistoryThis is one of our older family pictures. Here is my third great grandfather David Darling. I have found some recent clues to his ancestry and am verifying them to see if they are correct. This could be another branch tracing back to 1621 in the Plymouth Colony.

absalom leeper, Blind, preacher, Old Picture, Mad as a hatterI have also been tracing the main branch of my Leeper family. This is my favorite Leeper picture. This is my 4th great grandfather Absalom Leeper who was an early Restoration Movement preacher in Iowa. He actually moved there before it became Iowa Territory, so it could be said he was one of the first Iowans 🙂

Flowers Past Peak

Tonight I will share some pictures of flowers past their peak.

flowers, past peak, drying out, cycle of lifeI like to watch flower go through their complete cycle of life, and I sometimes really like the way they look after they are past their peak.

For my Mr. Lincoln rosebush this happens very quickly. The blooms will only be at their peak for a very short time.

flowers, past peak, drying out, cycle of lifeWith the hot and dry weather they are drying out even quicker. I really need to clean up my rose bushes this coming weekend.

flowers, past peak, drying out, cycle of lifeMy St. Patrick roses keep their petals, but they dry out and become like parchment. I really like the way they look when they dry out.

flowers, past peak, drying out, cycle of lifeHere is another example of what I like to call a parchment rose. If I don’t cut them off the bush, they will not loose their petals for weeks on end. These are also drying out quicker with the hot days.

flowers, past peak, drying out, cycle of lifeMy agapanthus is the back yard is slowly loosing the little flowers and seed pods have formed. It will soon be time to cut back the scapes.

I need to do some research on when to divide my agapanthus. Perhaps this will be the year I finally get around to doing it.

Now to get this posted and back to a bit of genealogy. Ancestry is making a big change in August to the way they process DNA matches and I want to document some of what I have now so that I can see what the changes are.
