Additional Ancestry Communities

Today I received an e-mail  from Ancestry.com letting me know:

“Your AncestryDNA results have been updated.”

Ancestry has added a large number of additional DNA communities and some of them included some of my family members.

Ancestry communities, dna, results, amish, IowaI am included in one of the sub regions of the Eastern Ohio River Valley & Northern Blue Ridge Mountains Setters Community.

Do you see the Amish Country in the title?

Ancestry communities, dna, results, amish, IowaHere you can see the two large geographic areas for the Southern Pennsylvania & Amish Country, Ohio Settlers.

In Pennsylvania you can see the general area of the first area where Amish settlements were.

Ancestry communities, dna, results, amish, IowaI am sure that many of my Amish cousins recognized the town names here. Especially Walnut Creek and Sugarcreek which were early Ohio Amish settlements. It will be interesting to explore the information they show here.

Ancestry communities, dna, results, amish, IowaI also have a lot of ancestors in the Upper Midwest Settlers Community, especially in the Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota & Minnesota Border Settlers sub region.

Ancestry communities, dna, results, amish, IowaThese are mainly my Father’s family, but some of my Mother’s maternal side of the family are also in this region.

I am sure that they will continue to refine these regions and that we will see many more changes in the future.

However, for now I am sure that I will find some helpful information as I search through the data.

Do you have some new communities to explore?

Happy Birthday Big Sister

Happy Birthday to my Big Sister.

Here are a few pictures I have been thinking about so I will share them to help celebrate the day.

four generation picture, grandma, great grandmaThis first picture is of four generations. Joining my Mom and sister in the picture are my Grandma Yoder and Great Grandma Dickson.

Sister and firend, Frytown Iowa, Church stepsHere is a picture of my sister with one of her friends. We have some pictures of them in the same place when they are adults.

Do you know where this picture was taken, and who the friend is?

sharon bluff campground, iowa campFor many of my childhood friends, this is a familiar place. Do you know where this picture was taken and who is holding my sister?

aunt, niece, nephew, IowaMy Aunt shared this picture today on Facebook. I don’t remember seeing this picture before, so thought I would share it.

Sometimes it is interesting what details in a picture bring back memories. Do you see the handlebars of the trike and the handle of the mower in the background? They both have a lot of memories tied to them.

counsins, tall corn motel, shenandoah, IowaWe will fast forward in time a little to our teenage years and here is another picture I ran across this past week. Here my sister and I are with a cousin at a family reunion in the Tall Corn Hotel in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Do you see someone else in the background?

Happy Birthday Sis!
