Oak Island – Ship Wrecks

Season 9 of The Curse of Oak Island continues to drag on. Are they waiting for the last episode of the year to show what they have found, if anything?

In the episode tonight they showed them getting to the bottom of the third large can.

Curse of Oak Island, History Channel, Did they find anything? There was some large timbers and what looks to be a sail needle, but not much else.

They did show more about some items found during the last episode using metal detecting. One was a possible boom chain and the other a tool for either setting barrel hoops or packing oakum between boards on a ship hull. The blacksmith, Carmen Legge, gave a date when these may have first been used, which of course was then often referred to as the actual date. Again, I think the date would be later than what was given

oak Island, Money Pit, Mahone BayTonight they did a dive on a potential ship wreck. They were able to get some additional magnetometer readings, but nothing showed above the surface. They also talked about another potential site that they want to dive on.

Oak Island, Money Pit, National Geographic, Curse of Oak IslandSince they reached the bottom of the third can, they then discussed where to sink the fourth can. The episode ended with them pulling material out and loading it directly into a dump truck. They do not expect to find items of interest near the surface as most of it is fill in this location.

Curse of Oak Island, Mahone Bay, Nova ScotiaThey also did some more scanning on an item that they want to dig up in the area where they found the chain and tool during the last episode. They were definitely seeing something about 20 feet below the surface.

oak island, curse of oak lsland, satellite, money pitThe preview for next week did not show immediately after the show tonight, instead they launched into a new series about a hunt for Aztec gold. However, they did give a preview during the first commercial break.

The preview showed some more work in the area where they scanned this week looking for more information about the anomaly. They also showed some wood and also a metal shield being brought out of the fourth can using the hammer grab tool. It will be interesting to see what the metal shield is. I remember seeing something similar several seasons ago.

The season is definitely getting close to the end as the weather is starting to change. I need to find out how many more episodes there will be.

What did they find? How exciting will it be next week?

Ottumwa Balloon Parade

Recently I discovered a new archive of pictures from Ottumwa, Iowa. The archive is hosted on a site called Fortepan.

The pictures brought back a lot of memories as I looked through them. However, the pictures that I really liked were from balloon parades from the mid-70s. Every year when I see images of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade I think back to these parades.

I never thought I would see pictures from the parades, but the images have lived on in my memories.

I have only reduced the resolution of the pictures, no other changes have been made.

The pictures are in black and white, but I can picture the colors in my memory.

Can you tell what time of year the parade took place in?

Michael Lemberger, Ottumwa, Iowa, Balloon parade, Holiday Parade, memoriesI like this cool dragon which makes me think of the Chinese New Year. However, it was not that time of year.

You can see in all three pictures that the spectators are wearing coats, so it must be winter. However, the Christmas decorations are the real clue. I well remember these decorations that went up every year. You can see them in the first picture also.

So many memories.

I know I have some Ottumwans among my readers. Do you remember this parade?
