Oak Island – A Cave in England

Season 10 of The Curse of Oak Island is off to a good start.

After a two hour season premier it is now time for the weekly one hour shows about what was discovered during the season.

Curse of Oak Island, History Channel, Did they find anything?Of course, one thing to remember is that the dig season is already over. They have taken the time to determine how to present things each week to build suspense and keep viewers tuned in.

This week part of the team went to England to look at a mysterious cave in Royston, England. There are connections between the cave and the Knights Templar. The cave dates to at least Medevial times.

There are many carvings on the walls of the cave and it is believed to be a Templar initiation chamber.

Of course many possible connections to Oak Island were discussed, including images similar to the lead cross.

oak Island, Money Pit, Mahone BayThey also continue to drill bore holes in the Money Pit area looking for shafts and tunnels. They are currently following a tunnel toward the Garden shaft. They have been finding interesting pieces of wood in unexpected places.

Of course they continue to test water in the bore holes for gold.

Curse of Oak Island, Mahone Bay, Nova ScotiaThey also talked a little more about the battles of the British and French fleets in the mid 1700s and documents that were found in the archives in England. These battles led to the expulsion of the Acadians and could also be connected to Oak Island. It was shortly after this time that some of my ancestors moved to Nova Scotia so this is interesting to me. See: They Lived Near: Oak Island

In the preview of the next episode they showed another metal detecting find and also some mysterious bubbles in the Garden shaft. It looks like they will be excavating the Garden shaft soon so it might be an exciting episode.

Wild Turkey Avon Bottle

Since it is Thanksgiving week I decided to share some pictures of one of my favorite Avon bottles.

Avon Bottle, Wild Turkey Avon Bottle, after shave, Wild Country after shave, avon productsMost of the Avon bottles that I have belonged to my Grandmother. One of them has always been on display in my bathroom, but most of them have spent the last twenty years in a box in the garage. During the pandemic I brought them in and now have some of them on display in my bathroom.

The bottle is in really good condition as it was wrapped in paper towels in the box, and still had the original plastic bag protecting the plastic head.

I did look and the prices were all over the place from just a couple dollars to up to $25 with the original box. The memories that I have when I see the bottle are more valuable. I remember the large number of Avon bottles that my Grandmother had in their bathroom.

Some of my ancestors came in the 1620 ‘s and some were there for the first Thanksgiving. The Braman family came a bit later, in about 1650, to Taunton which was then part of Plymouth Colony.

My Grandmother liked to research family history, so this bottle definitely has some memories associated with it.
