Oak Island – Drilling in the Blob

Season 10 of The Curse of Oak Island continues to show new discoveries and theories.

This week on Oak Island they were drilling the first new borehole in the Blob area. They also started to investigate a well on Lot 26 which has been a bit mysterious in the past.

The also continued doing more trowel work on the newly acquired lot and are finding some interesting items.

Curse of Oak Island, History Channel, Did they find anything?Of course, one thing to remember is that the dig season is already over. They have taken the time to determine how to present things each week to build suspense and keep viewers tuned in.

oak Island, Money Pit, Mahone BayIn the square on the newly acquired lot, they found a clay pipe stem that will help date the finds. Changes in pipe stem construction over time are well known so they can determine how old it is.

Amazingly, there was no metal detecting on Oak Island this week. It is good to see them focusing on promising areas for detailed investigation. Scientific and archaeological practices are showing good results.

A water sample from the well on Lot 26 showed some soluble silver which is partly why they decided to investigate further. A core sample was taken from the bottom of the shallow well to see if they could date when it was constructed. A twig at the bottom of the core sample was dated to almost 1,000 years ago. This is definitely much earlier than expected, but lines up with some of the dates from the swamp.

The team took a trip to look at some marks on rocks further south along the bay. One mark was identified as identical to a mason mark from the Templar time period. A boulder with other marks was discussed with several of them having religious significance. They were similar to some found in Portugal, or as they said identical.

Water samples were taken at several depths before moving on to the next borehole. I am sure we will see some results of the water samples in the next episode.

How long before they resume the Garden Shaft project? This was not mentioned at all this week.

In the preview of the next episode they showed that some wood was found in a bore hole in the blog area and mention was made of a tunnel heading toward the Garden Shaft. They also showed a computer screen with an analysis and mentioned Roman Empire, but no context about what they were talking about. They also were talking and it was said “That’s what we are looking for” “Finally.” What did they find? Did they find a small bit of treasure?

It looks like it will be interesting next week.

What will happen next?

Thinking of My Big Sister

I am thinking of my big sister tonight.

Sister in Snow - 9 inch snow fall - Fun in the Cold - Winter sceneLast week my sister was snapping videos of my great niece playing in the snow. It made me think of these pictures. I remember the deep snow when we were kids.

Hello from snowy Iowa - Child in Snow - Little girl in snow - red scarf and mittens - playing in snowHere is another cute picture of her in the snow. She is a little younger here.

Snow man - Little Girl - Winter time - Playing in Snow - Cold Weather FunHere she has built a snowman. This is also before we moved to the house in the first picture. Most of my Iowa childhood memories are from that house.

Swingset in snow - Iowa Snow - Childhood Memories of Snow - Playing in the snow - SwingsetOh, here is another one that I almost missed. She looks a little disappointed that she cannot swing on the swing set.
