Old Blue Blues

Tonight has not been a fun night. I have been having Old Blue Blues.

I was already leaving work late when troubles started. As I started up my car a message came up about low tire pressure.

Flat Tire, Roadside Assistance, Car TroubleMy first thought was that I had another tire sensor problem, but after inspection found that my right rear tire was indeed flat.

Old Blue, Flat Tire, Car trouble, OnStarI was definitely not wanting to try and change a tire by myself and since I have OnStar with roadside assistance I made the call. It is actually good that I did not attempt it myself.

Waiting for help, reading, flat tire, car troubleWhile waiting for help to arrive I sat on a picnic table behind our office and read a book. I have really been enjoying the book I am reading so it was nice to have some time to read. It was nice that there was a big light just above me.

Tire in Trunk, flat, donught tire. car troubleWhen taking the small spare tire out of the trunk the roadside guy found that it was very low, but luckily he had an air pump among his equipment. He soon had my tire off and had the small spare installed. He rolled the tire and found that there was a nail in the tire, so hopefully the repair will be quick in the morning.

Once he was done and the paper work signed I hopped in Old Blue and turned the key and the car would not start. The battery did not have enough power for the starter. This was really weird as I had just started it.

There was then a wait as we had to recontact roadside to approve him to jump start Old Blue. We then found out that the battery terminal was heavily corroded. Looks like I may need a new battery as well.

I started to think and when I got back from my last trip the time and radio settings had reset. This usually happens when the battery is disconnected. I had assumed at the time that maybe the parking guys had been trying to turn off the radio and pressed the wrong buttons. They did not say anything about having trouble starting my car. However, perhaps the battery is only storing enough energy for one start and then it has to have time to recharge. I don’t now 🙂

Small spare tire, slow speed, long trip homeOf course, I now had the little spare on the car with the recommendation to not drive more than 50 miles an hour. Luckily, it was a bit late with less traffic so I was able to take surface streets and back roads without too many people being inconvenienced by me driving a bit slower. In fact most of the way home the speed limit was less than 50.

I made a quick pit stop at home to drop off a few things. I did not shut off the car, I let it idle in the open garage as I quickly emptied the car and changed into walking shoes.

I then drove the car to the dealer and dropped off the keys in the night drop so it can hopefully be fixed first thing in the morning. I then got in a nice evening walk of about two miles and finally was home at about 10.

Now to see what tomorrow brings. I am teaching a class, so can’t just take a day off to get things done. Tomorrow may be a bit stressful if it takes a long time to fix Old Blue. I may be able to get a substitute teacher for an hour or two, but that is about all I can delay before I need to be there.

Post Number 2000

Tonight I am writing post number 2000 for Braman’s Wanderings.Blog stats, Bramans Wanderings, blog, posts, milestoneI have been watching my stats page and seeing the number of posts slowly approach this milestone. Before I started writing my post tonight it showed 1,999 posts.

First Post, Braman's Wanderings, Milestone, bloggingThe blog began back in May of 2012 and I have been writing ever since. Above you see a screen shot of my first blog post (Welcome to Braman’s Wanderings). It was a short post with no pictures. However, I believe that I have followed what I set out for in the first post.

You may notice that I mentioned “We will see how often it gets updated”. I think I have done a good job in making regular posts. The only large gaps have been on a couple trips to China when I couldn’t access WordPress to post.

Blog Views, blog stats, blog milestone, bloggingSince I have started posting I have had a little over 343 thousand views on the blog. This does not count people who read the posts in e-mails or blog readers that do not return stats. It is a much larger number than I would have expected more than five years ago when I started.

I also have almost 1,000 followers. I know that many of these rarely visit the blog, but it is amazing that so many people have clicked follow for some reason or another.

Popular posts, blog stats, Amish Posts, Walls of JerichoOK, this is not the full list of the 25 most visited posts, but you can see the entire list by clicking on Popular Posts. You will also see a list of least visited posts.

The most popular post is one that I wrote about the Walls of Jericho. The second most popular is Amish in California? Both of these have been visited more than 10,000 times.

The next two have been visited more than 5,000 times and the rest in the list above more than 1,000 times.

You can see that a good portion of the popular posts have been about Amish. Perhaps I should write more about the Amish 🙂

I want to say thank you to all my readers and followers for keeping me motivated to share my wanderings. Now on to the next 1000!
