My Guacamole

While at the grocery store this afternoon I saw that avocados were on sale so picked one up. I decided that tonight I would made some guacamole the way that I like it. I also still had some sour cream that I needed to use so it was a good plan.

Guacamole, avocado, pepper, garlic salt, sour cream, salsa, olive oilI guess that I have been watching too many cooking shows as I decided that I needed to put together my mise en place. For my guacamole I need sour cream, garlic salt, olive oil, fresh ground pepper, salsa and an avocado.

There is some debate as to whether guacamole should include sour cream, but there are some regions in Mexico that do. Plus, this is guacamole the way I like it and I include it.

Plus, no fresh tomatoes for me. This is guacamole the way I like it.

Guacamole, avocado, pepper, garlic salt, sour cream, salsa, olive oilI started by mashing up the avocado with a fork. Since this is guacamole the way I like it, I mashed it up pretty good.

Guacamole, avocado, pepper, garlic salt, sour cream, salsa, olive oilNext I add the sour cream, garlic salt and pepper.

Guacamole, avocado, pepper, garlic salt, sour cream, salsa, olive oilHere I have mixed up the first set of ingredients. I may not mix it all the way as you can still see some sour cream. There is more mixing to come 🙂

Guacamole, avocado, pepper, garlic salt, sour cream, salsa, olive oilAfter adding the olive oil and salsa I give it a last stir and then it is time for tasting. At this point I may add a bit more pepper or garlic salt. Also, if I am not going to use all of it in one sitting I may add some lemon juice.

Since this was just a medium sized avocado I ate it all while watching a re-run of the Diamond League track meet in Shanghai. I then went out and took a four mile walk 🙂

What do you like in your guacamole?

Korean Lunch with Students

Today I went with my students to have lunch at a Korean restaurant.

Odagada Chicken, Korean Food, Katsu, Korean Cuisine, Asian FoodOne of my students had suggested that we go out to lunch together on the last day of class, however he had picked a BBQ restaurant that is not exactly my favorite. Instead I suggested that we go to the Korean restaurant that I had visited for my Korean New Year Lunch.

Odagada Chicken, Korean Food, Katsu, Korean Cuisine, Asian FoodOdagada Chicken is in the Dublin Ulferts Center which has many Asian restaurants. Today as usual we had a difficult time finding a parking place. We almost gave up and went somewhere else, but I am glad that we didn’t.

Pork Katsu, Odagada Chicken, Ulferts Center, Korean FoodI had the Pork Katsu which is what I had the last time I visited. I thought about trying something else, but I had been remembering this delicious meal for most of the week and was really looking forward to it again. The katsu was cooked just right and was delicious. The breading had a nice crunch and the sauce had a nice taste.

Banchan, small dishes, Korean Food, Odagada, Chicken and KatsuThe banchan or small dishes that were served with my Katsu were the same as last time, but this is a good thing as they were a nice complement to the meal.  On the right is some delicious kimchi, then some noodles and on the left there are spicy cucumbers.

The kimchi was nice and spicy and I just had to ask for some more. The waitress had a nice smile as she brought it as she knew I was enjoying my meal.

Beef Bulgogi, Korean Food, Odagada, Ulferts Center, Dublin, CaliforniaThree of my students had the Beef Bulgogi. This looked really good and I may have to try it on a future trip to Odagada. It brought back some memories of some good bulgogi I had in South Korea.

Another student was a bit tentative to try anything new and played it safe with a dish of Chicken Fried Rice. He had never been to a Korean restaurant and I think if he goes to one again he will try something different after seeing what the others ate.

We all enjoyed the food, but we then had to hurry back to the office as the students had a certification test to take.

Do you have a favorite Korean dish?
