The next destination on my Virtual Hike was Ramsey, Indiana.
Ramsey is located in Harrison County across the river from Louisville, Kentucky.
The previous destination on my virtual hike was Cannelton, Indiana.
Heading north from Cannelton, the road was wide with scenic views. Of course, seeing a church building with a cemetery is very scenic to me.
As the route went further north the roads narrowed and started going through hilly country. The roads were a bit windy at times.
Some of the Google Street View images were from the fall, and it would have been a beautiful time to hike through the area.
The route also followed a number of smaller roads that the Google car had not been down. I can only imagine the view on these roads.
The route passed several church buildings, and if I had done more research I may have found some family connections. Several members of my family in this area were preachers in the early Restoration Movement.
The route finally made it to the small town of Ramsey, which was named after the family of one of my ancestors. The Ramsey family came to the area in the early 1800’s from North Carolina through Tennessee and Kentucky.
My third great-grandfather Silas Calvin Ramsey married Sarah Sears there in 1846. They soon moved on to Iowa. Silas served in the Civil War and is buried in Des Moines. I visited his grave when I was back there in December.
Sarah was the daughter of Adam Sears and Susannah Kern who I have written about in recent Virtual Hike posts from Kentucky.
Now that I am in Indiana I will virtually stop at several more places with family connections.
