Virtual Hike to Cannelton, Indiana

The next destination on my Virtual Hike was Cannelton, Indiana.

Cannelton is located in Perry County along the Ohio River.

You may notice the bicycle icon on the time and mileage instead of the walker. This is because the route would not go across the bridge to Cannelton when choosing the walking option in Google Maps. However, I determined it was OK to break the rules of my Virtual Hike in this case. See: Virtual Hike – Breaking the Rules?

Cannelton is in Perry County where the family of Abraham Lincoln and my 4th Great Grandfather Thomas Bolin moved in the mid 1810’s. Not together, but near the same time. The Lincoln’s moved a bit further west to what soon became Spencer County, but at the time it was still Perry County. See: They Lived Near: Abraham Lincoln

While in Perry County my 3rd Great Grandfather Thomas Bolin married Polly Manly in 1830. They moved to Iowa by 1850 and lived in Iowa County near Millersburg. This is on my maternal side of the family.

Thomas Bolin Sr. stayed in Perry County and died at Cannelton. I have been researching the Bolin family for a very long time. The history of the family is muddled, but there is likely a connection to the Thomas Jefferson family.

The Manly family moved on to Alabama and I have a whole family of distant cousins near Limestone, Alabama who I have never contacted, and possibly don’t know about our branch of the family.

Now that I am in Indiana I will virtually stop at several more places with family connections.
