On Sunday I usually take a two lane limited access road to go to church services. The drive takes about a half hour and I cross the railroad tracks several times.
I rarely have to stop for a train, but last Sunday I had to on the way home. It was a bit of a surprise as I cannot remember the last time I had to stop for the train.
The crossbar was already down, so I slowed to a stop and waited.
It was not long before the train made it to the crossing. It was a bit noisy.
I like the look of this Union Pacific engine with the big flag.
Most of the cars were container carriers. The train went by with a lot of noise and was running pretty fast. I was wondering when it would end and then suddenly there were two more engines in line with the train. Then even more cars.
Finally the train cleared the crossing and I waited for the cross bar to go up.
I thought about trains in Germany and other countries where they are seen more often, especially passenger trains.
I do see the Altamont Express every once in a while when I cross the Altamont on the way home from work. However, our schedules do not mesh and I do not cross any tracks. It is all grade separated.
The only other train I normally see is BART. I can see the last station on the line from our cafeteria at work.
Lots of train memories that I need to write about sometime.
