The 11th season of The Curse of Oak Island has not yet started, but I have been keeping my eye out to see what I can find out about what is happening there. In the past month the island has been getting some bad weather, but it is better now.
Franklin and Idalia went south of Nova Scotia with little impact, but Hurricane Lee made landfall in Nova Scotia.
Lee was not a hurricane when it reached Nova Scotia and made landfall on the western side of the province at Long Beach before heading across the Bay of Fundy. Oak Island did not get directly hit by the tropical storm but still had a lot of rain and heavy wind.
I did see some pictures of Oak Island on a Facebook site that gives a view of the island from the other side of the causeway. I also saw some pictures from earlier in the year.
It looks like there has been a lot of activity on the island with big equipment being brought in and also loads of large rocks. Pictures of the island show a renewal of the rock barriers along the coast, so the island would have been better protected during the storms this year.
Historically the premier for each season comes in early November, so we have some time to wait for the first episode of Season 11. The most likely date for the premier is probably November 14th.
We now know what they experienced weather wise during the season, and it will most likely be a big story line as the season progresses.
Will we see weather as a reason why they can’t find the slippery treasure?
It would be interesting to see how they show the effects of weather throughout the year. There was a huge rainstorm and flooding earlier in the year, which most likely affected work in the swamp.
It would actually interesting to see what would have happened if they were hit harder by the storms. What would be exposed if a huge storm system hits the island? I know how rains effect a normal archaeological dig and they always secure the area during the rainy season. However, as spread out as the sites are on Oak Island and the large areas of beach there is sure to be something uncovered in a large storm.
Once the new season starts airing it will be interesting to see where they have been digging or exploring this year. Did they open up areas that were susceptible to a big storm?
Did they undertake one of the big projects they have proposed in the past? If so, they will probably need to curtail the projects late in the year due to weather. It does look like things may have been wrapped up before the latest weather hit. Did they wrap up early or just take a break for the weather?
In satellite pictures on map sites it looks like there is some activity in additional areas. It will be interesting to see what this activity is. The pier is in the older picture just above this one, but the area to the right seems to be new.
The operations at the site will have already been completed by the time the season starts, so perhaps they will give hints of what is to come later in the season. I saw a video of a drilling rig heading back to the island after Lee passed by, so they must still be at work. But does that mean that they didn’t find anything?
What will they find this year? Will they find the slippery treasure and finally wrap up the show?
