Bangkok 20 Years Ago

My first trip to Bangkok was 20 years ago and later this week I will fly there to teach classes for two weeks. It will be my first trip in almost four years. It has been a challenge to remember what I need to pack.

Tonight I looked back at some pictures from my last trip. They were taken with a digital camera that saved the pictures on floppy disks so the resolution is not as good.

Bangkok Thailand, metro system, swing, construction, reclining BudhaOne thing that I remember is taking the Skytrain in Bangkok. I will most likely ride it again on this trip. The metro in Bangkok has expanded a lot since I was there.

Bangkok Thailand, metro system, swing, construction, reclining BudhaI remember this one very interesting car. Could you imagine hanging from the Skytrain car?

Bangkok Thailand, metro system, swing, construction, reclining BudhaI remember seeing the Giant Swing that used to be used for Brahmin ceremonies. Could you imagine swinging on this almost 100 foot tall swing? The ceremonies were discontinued in 1935 after several fatal accidents.

Bangkok Thailand, metro system, swing, construction, reclining BuddhaI also remember visiting Wat Pho or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. This was interesting to see. There are a lot of interesting temples in Bangkok. I am sure that I will visit some of them on this trip.

Bangkok Thailand, metro system, swing, construction, reclining BudhaIt will also be interesting to see the skyline of Bangkok. There was a lot of construction going on 20 years ago, and that was just the beginning of continued construction. I have seen some pictures of the skyline and it looks much different now.

I will share some new pictures from Bangkok once I am there next week.
