The time has come for a change in seasons. I always have an easy time remembering when the first day of autumn is each year. My next youngest brother’s birthday is September 22, which is almost always the autumnal equinox. Happy Birthday little brother.
Today the axis of the earth is straight up and down in relation to the sun and the subsolar point is directly above the Equator. For us in the Northern Hemisphere the days will get shorter and shorter until the winter solstice in December when the subsolar point is above the Tropic of Capricorn.
I am sad for summer to be over, but I do enjoy autumn when the leaves start to change color.
The days become cooler and you can open up the windows and cool down the house when you get home from work. Also, good sleeping weather where the night sounds are not overshadowed by the hum of air conditioning units.
Autumn also brings several good holidays. Halloween is only just a month away and Thanksgiving is only two. Are you starting to get hungry for Turkey?
I hope that everyone had a great summer and are prepared for a great autumn. I have been thinking about what my plans are for autumn.
Now to get packing for my first post-covid trip.
Here I am 20 years ago at the place that I am headed to next week. Not this restaurant, but to Bangkok.
Are you ready for autumn?
