It is time for another entry in my In the BAR post series where I share some of my own pictures or thoughts about a recent issue of Biblical Archaeology Review.
When I opened the latest issue a couple days ago several articles and pictures caught my eye.
An article about the Millo made me think of several pictures that I took from the area discussed.
Hezekiah’s Tunnel was discussed in the article as well as other parts of the water system of early Jerusalem.
The stepped stone structure on the left side of the picture above has often been referred to the Millo, but this may not be the Millo.
They also referenced the Siloam pool in the article as possibly being related to the Millo. One of the main points of the article is that the word millo my be referring to filling with water instead of stone or soil. Could it be referring to what is know today as the Spring Tower?
An article Constantinople: Christianity’s First Capital by Sarah K. Yeomans brought back memories of a trip to Istanbul.
The picture above was taken inside the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.
There was also an article about Qumran and some of the activities of the community there.
Excavation season is underway in Israel and I am following the different digs that are underway. Hopefully in the next issue they will share information from some of the sites that I have visited in the past.
Hopefully I will find something in the next BAR and will add another post to the series.
