Today is National Waffle Day and also National Burger Day. This made me think back to a post I wrote back in 2019 where I shared a picture of a Breakfast burger that used waffles for a bun.
I think about this post every once and a while and perhaps someday I will take this challenge again.
The AOC Burger Challenge
Ever since Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said “Maybe we shouldn’t be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch and dinner” I have been thinking about whether I have ever eaten a hamburger for all three meals in the same day.
I know that I have often had a hamburger for both lunch and dinner, but not really too often.
So, I decided to take up the challenge and have a hamburger for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Today I had the day off, so thought it would be a good day to take the challenge.
I knew that I probably would not easily find a hamburger on the breakfast menu of a restaurant, so decided that for breakfast I would make a waffle burger at home.
I popped some waffles in the toaster and got out my cast iron skillet and cooked a small hamburger.
This was a nice variation of a hamburger which I may have to try again some day. But, maybe not for breakfast.
For lunch I went to Wendy’s after visiting the library.
I had a double stack burger and a cup of chili. Not too heavy of a lunch as usually I would order two of these burgers for lunch if I wasn’t having a spicy chicken sandwich when going to Wendy’s.
If you are going to do a burger challenge in California, then one of them should be from In-N-Out. This evening I went to In-N-Out and had a Double-Double with fries.
The In-N-Out burger was delicious as usual. Nice fresh ingredients, but a bit messy to eat while trying to read a book while eating.
How do I feel after all the burgers today? Well, altogether it was probably less beef than eating a normal sized steak for dinner. However, it was a lot of carbs with two buns and two waffles. I will have to see what the scale reads tomorrow.
I can now say that I have eaten a hamburger for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the same day. I doubt that very many people have actually done this.
I have read that on average an American eats three hamburgers a week. It is not often that I will eat that many hamburgers in a week, and sometimes I will go weeks without even eating one.
Challenge completed!
