The next destination on my Virtual Hike was Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
The previous destination on my virtual hike was Elk Lick Township, Pennsylvania.
The virtual hike route from Elk Lick Township initially went through forested areas.
The route also followed the Monongahela River before crossing and heading northwest to Canonsburg.
As it got close to Canonsburg it passed the Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church. It was near here where John McMillan established a log cabin school in 1780. McMillan is buried in the cemetery that is shown in the picture.
The destination in Canonsburg is where the log cabin was moved to and preserved. You can see that it is not very large.
John McMillan had been a student at the Pequea Log Cabin School under Robert Smith.

McMillan’s Log Cabin School provided a education consisting of grammar, mathematics, natural history, Greek, Latin and rhetoric. These were skills that the Presbyterian Church required for their ministers.
McMillan helped form the Redstone Presbytery and taught many of the ministers who were in the group.
The McMillan Log Cabin school was not the only one in the area and there is some question as to which one was first. The area near where another log cabin school was located will by my next destination on the Virtual Hike.
The McMillan school later became Washington Academy which merged with Jefferson College to form Washington and Jefferson College.
You may not have heard much about Washington and Jefferson College, but you may have heard of a person who coached football there. John Heisman coached the Washington and Jefferson Presidents in 1923 near the end of his coaching career.
The next destination on my Virtual Hike is also in Washington County, Pennsylvania where some interesting family and religious history took place.
I have been setting shorter distances between destinations for better motivation for my daily walking and so far it has been working. I have been walking more each day and have made good progress on my Virtual Hike. I am still a few stops behind on my posts.
I am now heading west and have some interesting stops planned that are family or history related.
