Book Store Opening

Back in December I wrote a post about a Book Store Closing. At the end of the year we lost the only bookstore in town.

There are still a few places where you can buy books in Tracy. However, the selection at places like Target and Safeway are limited.

Yesterday in the Tracy Press I read about the upcoming grand opening of a new bookstore.

Origins Books, Tracy California, New Book Store, Independent Bookstore, BooksThe grand opening of Origins Books was today, so I decided to stop by on my way to the library.

The bookstore is on 10th street in Tracy, which is one of our main streets in the downtown area.

Origins Books, Tracy, California, New bookstore, Downtown Tracy, booksThe bookstore is not very large, but they do have a nice selection of books. I also visited their Facebook page, and found out that they have another shipment of books coming in early next week which will further expand their inventory and selection.

Iron Gate, Decorative Gate, Green Gate, Downtown Tracy, Ivy Covered GateA little tangent here, but you may have noticed the decorative iron work on the left side of the second picture in the post. I just had to take a picture of the gate as it is one of the most picturesque spots in downtown Tracy. I have always liked this gate and will enjoy seeing it when I visit the bookstore in the future.

Independent Book Store, Origins Books, Tracy, California, Book Store OpeningOrigins Books is an independently owned bookstore. I really liked the poster on the front door. It helps make the point that we need to support local businesses so that we ensure that we have the services we need.

The store was busy when I visited this afternoon, so I took a quick look so that others would have more room to browse the shelves. I did see a few interesting titles. One advantage of an independent bookstore is that they usually stock more books by small publishers.

I am curious to see how the book store inventory evolves as they adjust to the needs of their customers. Will they carry foreign language books since we have a multicultural population? Will they carry a lot of classics that are required reading for students? What genres will prevail?

If you live near Tracy, make sure that you go check out Origins Books.
