The Home Pride Update posts are slowly coming to an end as most of the former Hostess products are once again available for purchase.

I am not sure yet where L or LI will be the last update. Should it be L for Last or LI for Last One?

I have been thinking for some time of what to write in a final post. I should write a little something about why I have written the posts. Why write about bread? There are indeed a few reasons 🙂

However, this post is not about the final post, but is about what was my favorite of the Hostess Snack Cakes.

Zingers has been my favorite for many years. I would not buy them very often, but when I had a craving for sweets I would often pick up a two-pack or a box.

My first memories of Zingers were at my Aunt Shirley’s house. I always liked the icing on top of the Zinger. Especially as she would store them in the fridge and the icing had a nice consistency to it.

When I pulled the first Zinger out I could immediately tell that it was smaller than it was before. This was not a big deal, as it would mean a few less calories.

However, I was disappointed with the frosting layer on top of the cake. It was much thinner and did not have as nice of a consistency as before.

The cake still has a nice creme filling and still has a sweet taste.

I put the box in the refrigerator so they would be ready to eat the way I was used to eating them.

I soon found out that there was a lot of inconsistency in the frosting layer on the cake. Sometimes it was very thin and other times thicker. However, still not as thick as I remember it. Also, sometimes there were even major differences on the same cake or even missing pieces.

I assume that they are working on improving the consistency, so I may just have to test another box of them in the near future.

Of course, I am just glad to have my bread back. The bread seems to be selling well as there are always gaps on the shelves when I see it. More so than other varieties.

Readers have made comments on previous posts about whether the bread is the same as before. Some think that the slices are smaller, but I believe that they are very similar in size. Perhaps they were using a bread with larger slices in the interim. I compared it with a slice of cheese and it seems the same to me.

Of course, there may be regional variations as new bakers learn to bake the bread. There may also be equipment variations, so I won’t rule out the possibility of the bread being smaller in some areas. For me, it is the same 🙂
